This is a crucial time in life, filled with emotional, social, and psychological changes. Our teen therapy groups are held In-Person at our Rockville, MD office in the evenings to fit their schedule. The therapy groups offer a safe, non-judgmental space where teens can express themselves, explore their feelings, develop healthy coping strategies, and gain support from peers. We offer one teen group specifically for high school girls, Teen Girls Managing Emotions & Relationships Group, led by Dr. Natalia Vallejos, and another group specifically for high school guys, Skills Building Group for Teen Guys, led by Dr. Brandon Goldstein.

Why is it important? Adolescence is often accompanied by challenges such as anxiety, depression, frustration, self-esteem issues, and relationship struggles. These can significantly impact a teen’s well-being. Our therapy sessions focus on empowering teens, helping them develop resilience, build emotional intelligence, and navigate the complexities of their world with confidence.

Our Therapeutic Approaches

At our practice, we employ evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to meet the individual needs of each teen. Our techniques include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This helps teens modify negative patterns of thoughts and behaviors to combat depression, stress, and anxiety.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT skills help teens to better manage intense emotions and teaches mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness strategies.
  • Group Therapy: Our In-Person teen group therapy sessions are skills-based and include the 12-week Teen Girls Managing Emotions & Relationships Group and our 10-week Skills Building Group for Teen Guys. These groups provide a supportive space for teens to connect with peers facing similar challenges. Group therapy fosters community, encourages open dialogue, and helps participants develop skills together.

By integrating these approaches, our team of licensed psychologists ensures that each teen receives personalized, compassionate care to move forward to achieve their goals.

If your teen shows signs of anxiety, depression, mood swings, or difficulty communicating, it might be time to consider therapy. Professional counseling can help them manage these challenges and improve their emotional well-being.

Individual therapy offers one-on-one support, while group therapy provides a space for teens to interact with peers facing similar issues and to practice skills in real life. Group therapy can enhance social skills, provide peer support, and help teens develop effective communication strategies. Many of our teens engage in both individual therapy (at our practice or elsewhere) in addition to group therapy.
